Panel reports busy when idle

A panel reports that it is "busy" if the controller was not released by the last computer/application that used the panel.

Common Causes

  • Application quit prior to ending the order on the panel
  • Application quit prior to releasing a panel reservation

Environment / Applies To

  • Plant Supervisor PSX
  • Self-Serve 2

A panel reports that it is "busy" if the KA-2000 is running an order or a panel reservation is held by another computer/application. If an application quits unexpectedly (due to a computer problem, like a power outage) the KA-2000 can be left with a running order and/or a reservation held on the panel, preventing the use of the panel.

Running an order

If an order was left running in the KA-2000 because an application quit unexpectedly, it is best to restart that application that was running an order in the KA-2000 to let it recover order information and end the order in the controller.

If restarting the application is not an option because the application that was running an order is not known or the computer/application is no longer available, the order in the KA-2000 can be ended by resetting power on the affected KA-2000 (typically by disconnecting the power cable - the second cable from the right on the bottom of the KA-2000).

Caution: Resetting power on a KA-2000 while it is actively dispensing product will end the dispensing process. The final measurement may be unverified (and not legal-for-trade) and the dispensing process can only be resumed by starting a new load for the order.

If no other option are available, see the video below for direction on power cycling the KA-2000.

Panel reservations

Panel reservations are used to prevent more than one application, like Plant Supervisor PSX or Self Serve 2, running on separate computers from using the same panel at the same time.

Tip: Panel reservations are only necessary when more than one computer/application uses a panel. If only one computer/application uses a panel, panel reservations can be disabled by clearing the check in the "use reservations" setting on the panel in Terminal Management TMX under Panels / Panels.

If reservation was left on a panel because an application quit unexpectedly, it is best to restart the application that was running an order using the panel to let it clear the reservation.

If restarting the application is not an option because the application that was running an order is not known or the computer/application is no longer available, the application and computer that holds the reservation can be identified in Terminal Management.

Note: You will need to login to Terminal Management TMX with a user that either has the "view/modify panels" user permission or view access for the "panels" user profile permission.

1. Login to Terminal Management TMX

2. Click the "Panels" section link (on the left side of the page)

3. Click the "Panels" tab

4. Select the panel that is reported as busy in the "Panel" drop-down list

If the panel is configured to use reservations, the computer and application that currently holds the reservation is listed below the "use reservations" check box:

panel-reservation

The part to the left of the slash is the computer name ("DESKTOP-123" in the example) and the part to the right is the application ("PS4" in the example).

Applications are identified by abbreviation:

  • PS4: Plant Supervisor PSX
  • SS2: Self-Serve 2

Clicking the "Clear" button to the right of the computer/application that currently holds the reservation will remove the reservation so that another computer/application can run an order using the panel.

Caution: Manually clearing a reservation can cause problems if the reservation is for a computer/application that is operating normally and is using the panel to dispense an order.

Determine computer name

If your application is subscription licensed and your user has access to "application configuration", you can identify computer name in the "About" tab in the application's configuration (accessed by clicking on the wrench icon in the upper right corner of the application window).
